Dr. Hilary Evans Cameron and Dr. Kathleen (Katie) Hammond promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure

Dr. Hilary Evans Cameron and Dr. Kathleen (Katie) Hammond have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to TMU with promotions to Associate Professor with Tenure, effective February 25, 2025.
Having both joined the Lincoln Alexander School of Law in July 2020 as inaugural faculty members, this achievement is a testament to how their exceptional dedication, teaching, scholarship, and service have been instrumental in shaping the law school during its critical early years while earning admiration and respect from colleagues and students alike.

Dr. Hilary Evans Cameron
Dr. Evans Cameron is a highly respected scholar whose justice-oriented research and scholarship in refugee law have garnered recognition both in Canada and internationally. She has presented published her work in leading international journals and presented at distinguished fora. Several of her papers have become seminal works which are frequently referenced in the field and cited in court and tribunal judgments, as well as by the UNHCR. She has also earned a significant array of research awards and grants, including serving as a co-applicant on a $98.6 million Canada First Research Excellence Fund grant. Dr. Evans Cameron is also recognized as a dedicated and innovative educator, receiving the Lincoln Alexander Law Students’ Society’s "Professor of the Year" award. Beyond her teaching and research, Dr. Evans Cameron has provided invaluable service to the law school and broader university community, contributing to numerous committees and fostering community-building initiatives.

Dr. Kathleen (Katie) Hammond
A highly accomplished scholar, Dr. Hammond's research spans health law, genetic discrimination, reproductive rights, and family law, with a strong interdisciplinary and feminist approach. Her work has earned her national and international recognition, establishing her as a leading researcher in health law and policy. In addition to securing over $100K in external funding, she founded Lincoln Alexander Law’s Health Law & Innovation Group and has presented her research at several conferences and other fora in Canada and abroad. Dr. Hammond is also an outstanding educator, known for her dynamic and engaging teaching methods. She has played a pivotal role in curriculum development and has been recognized with the Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the Lincoln Alexander Law Students’ Society “Professor of the Year” award. Her extensive service contributions, including participation in hiring, admissions, and strategic planning committees, have been essential in strengthening the law school’s governance and institutional development.
