Under the guidance of our knowledgeable mentors, 18 student teams (comprising 72 participants) developed technology-based solutions to permanently reduce the volume of online hate directed towards women and gender-diverse people. In developing their solutions, students had to grapple with difficult legal issues related to privacy, technology and human rights law.

With no shortage of talent and grit, deliberations were challenging for our three judges, Aliya Ramji (MT Ventures), Ronak Shah (Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP), and Sean Bernstein (MinuteBox).

A big congratulations to the winning team, representing the Lincoln Alexander School of Law: Masla Tahir, Diksha Shukla, Sophia Christopher, Max Ryan and Hamza Syed, for their creative solution - “Filter BeSafe(BS).”

We'd also like to extend a shoutout to the two other finalist teams, Howsikan Kugathasan (U of T), as well as Coco Wang, Sarah Bonner-Proulx, Esther Chung, Tanya Darisi (Lincoln Alexander School of Law) for their innovative solutions.

Special thanks to our judges and to our mentors: Ben Barrett, Sari Graben, Matin Fazelpour, Rachel Kattapuram, Will Morrison, Aaron Shafton, Jagtaran Singh, and Suresh Sriskandarajah.

The event was a tremendous success, and we look forward to future collaborations at the intersection of justice, law and technology. Watch the event highlight reel (external link) .
