Dr. Chile Eboe-Osuji to be awarded the prestigious Goler T. Butcher Medal

Presented by the American Society of International Law, this medal is awarded to a distinguished individual for outstanding contributions to the development or effective realization of international human rights law.

Dr. Chile Eboe-Osuji awarded American Society of International Law medal

The Lincoln Alexander School of Law's Distinguished International Jurist, the Honourable Dr. Chile Eboe-Osuji, will be the first official of the International Criminal Court (current or former) to receive this prestigious honour in the field of international law.

The first recipient of this award was Thomas Buergenthal in 1997, and later recipients have included Louis Henkin, Carla del Ponte, José Vivanco, Juan Mendez, Gay McDougall, Cherif Bassiouni, Iris Yassmin Barrios Aquilar, James Anaya, Judge Patricia M. Wald, Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella, Zeid Ra’ad Al Husssein, and most recently, Louise Arbour. Dr. Eboe-Osuji is being recognized for his "many contributions to international human rights and accountability as a jurist, teacher, scholar, prosecutor, and international official". The award presentation will take place at the Assembly held during the Society’s 116th Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 7, 2022 in Washington, DC.
