Shawn Richard runs his own firm, A. Shawn Richard Family and Estate Law, and was previously a partner at Lenkinski, Carr & Richard LLP. Shawn graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law where he teaches Trial Advocacy. He served as a reviewer of the Peel District School Board to look into issues of systemic discrimination, specifically anti-Black racism, human resources practices, board leadership and governance. Shawn is a Past President of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL). During his presidency, Shawn represented the organization before standing committees, and members of provincial and federal parliament to address issues of anti-Black racism and human rights; represented the organization at the meeting of Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers to discuss human rights in December of 2017; and prepared submissions and press releases on issues affecting Black lawyers and Black communities. He is a board member of the Advocates Society, co-chair of the Annual Family Law Summit, is a published author and a frequent presenter.
