Dean Tudor

Dean Tudor is a Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) School of Journalism Professor Emeritus and the author of Finding Answers (McClelland & Stewart, 1993). He taught information resources, Canadian news media, media law and ethics, and computer-assisted reporting and research (1974-2000). He has been writing about beverage alcohol since 1969. His articles and books were published in the U.S. by Libraries Unlimited, R. R. Bowker, Library Journal, the American Library Association, and GlobalWineNews. His Wines, Beers and Spirits, (published 1975 and 1983) and Cooking for Entertainment (1976) both won American Library Association literary prizes. He was the lead cookbook reviewer for the American Library Association, with a column (1974-1985). Dean has been a Wine Writers’ Circle of Canada member since 1987 and is currently its treasurer (since 1997).

In Canada, Dean has published with the Canadian Library Association, Peter Martin Associates, McClelland & Stewart, BAR Magazine, Beverage Canada, International Wine and Food Society (Editor of the Grapevine, 1976-1996), the Downtowner, WineTidings (now Quench), Sympatico.ca, City Bites, and Toronto Life. For 11 years, he was a member of the Society of Wine Educators (1981-1992). Dean also was involved with the first edition of Books for Cooks Bookstore in Toronto. He holds a Diploma in Haute Cuisine (George Brown, 1974).
Founding Editor of The Canadian Book Review Annual (1975+ ) and music author with 30 volumes of books to his credit, Dean was also Informatics Consultant-Writer with SOURCES (1983-2009). He created and has maintained MEGASOURCES on the web since 1994. He has won over a dozen unsolicited awards and he appears in the Canadian Who’s Who annually, since 1983.

Dean produces his World Wine Watch Online at www.deantudor.com (external link) , covering hospitality trade events, news, food, and wine books. His subscription newsletter highlights preview tastings of new wine releases at the LCBO, providing a heads-up to the wine consumer and wine trade. For the Internet, he has created and maintained Wines, Beers and Spirits of the Net since 1994. He has two popular blogs: Gothic Epicures VinCuisine and the award-winning (and leading) wine satire blog on the Internet, FauxVoix VinCuisine. He is a judge with tasting clubs and the Ontario Wine Awards, and head judge for the Ontario Wine Awards’ Journalism Award. Like some of his other wine writer colleagues, Dean tastes between 6,000 and 8,000 wines a year. He also has made his own wine, beer and cider.

Through Gothic Epicures Writing, he offers consultations on most aspects of food and wine writing (including research and critiques), editorial work, selective public relations guidance, wine judging. assistance with menu creation and planning, basic wine and food research and wine business writing, major reports, and consultation (purchases, wine lists, cellar evaluation).
