The Ted Rogers School of Management offers an optional integrated co-op program. Known for the TRSM advantage, the school is chosen by students for its focus on technical and creative courses, career-focused training, and connection to industry-connected faculty members and professionals. For international students, this specialized curriculum promises an abundance of exposure and opportunities.

Rebeka Salazar, a Business Technology Management student from Mexico, shared details of her international student experience in Ted Rogers School of Management at TMU.

Why TMU?

I chose to join TMU because of its unique program in Business Technology Management which is not available in my home country, its commitment to diversity, its strategic downtown location, its industry connections, and its emphasis on innovation.

What stands out to you most about studying at TRSM?

As a first-year student, being a TedPack leader in the Fit For Business program was a memorable experience. The program's emphasis on holistic development has allowed me to enhance my leadership skills, work in teams, and contribute to the university community beyond the classroom. This sense of support and community within the program is something I value greatly.

How would you describe the transition from high school to university, especially in a new country?

It’s an exciting yet challenging shift. It involves adjusting to a new culture, increased academic rigor, greater independence, and developing effective time management and adaptability. Building a support system and utilizing available resources are key to a successful transition.

Can you share a memorable event you went to at TMU?

I attended a growth mindset workshop hosted by TRSM. It was an enlightening experience that encouraged me to embrace challenges and view setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth. I learned practical strategies for fostering a growth mindset in both academic and personal aspects of my life.

As you look forward to your next year at TMU, what do you hope to achieve?

I'm genuinely excited to dive into student groups and campus activities, eagerly anticipating the personal and academic growth they offer. What's also on my radar is the possibility of an international exchange!

Peer-assisted learning (PAL) sessions: Led by upper-year TRSM students, this service ensures that you get assistance in courses you find challenging from students who have given the sae exams and assignments, and excelled in the course. With weekly study groups and course reviews, and extra assistance during exam season, PAL sessions are used by many TRSM students.

International Student Support Office: ISS works to support international students through their transition and help them navigate Canadian culture and systems. With informative workshops and immigration advising, they are known to be the one stop shop for everything international students may need.

TMU Learning Support: Student Life and Learning Support offers programs such as Study Skills and Transition Support and Workshops to help students engage effectively with their academic work. They also offer tutoring sessions, study groups, and writing assistance across programs, both in person and virtual.

For most international students, TMU’s student support services and career opportunities enhance their academic journeys and equip them with industry-level skills and knowledge. Learn about the different kinds of programs offered in the Ted Rogers School of Management, and the experiential learning components in each!
