As an international student embarking on a transformative academic journey in Canada, you'll undoubtedly experience exciting opportunities and encounters. Among the essential aspects of your well-being while studying abroad is access to reliable health insurance! Did you know that TMU offers health coverage for all students? Let us walk you through UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan) and Greenshield, the two insurance plans available for TMU international students.
University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)
The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is your protective shield, offering you peace of mind throughout your time in Canada. This plan is mandatory and all international students studying in Ontario with a valid study permit are required to have it. Whether you have a routine check-up at the campus health center or an unforeseen medical emergency, UHIP has you covered without the burden of high expenses.
The annual cost of the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is currently $756 for 12 months of coverage. Your coverage is from September 1 until August 31 of every academic year.
Coverage:
- Hospital services
- Physician services
- X-rays
- Annual exams
TMSU Health and Dental Plan (Green Shield Canada)
This extended health coverage plan provides access to additional health and wellbeing services. The plan is provided by the Toronto Metropolitan University Students' Union and is provided through Green Shield Canada. It is active for as long as you remain an enrolled and eligible student at TMU. You may be able to opt out of the plan if you have an alternative health insurance plan.
The annual cost of the TMSU Health and Dental Plan is currently $275-$330 depending on your start term. Your coverage is from September 1 or January 1 until August 31 of every academic year.
Coverage:
- Prescription drugs
- Vision care
- Dental care
- Mental health services
