Ergonomics and Operations excellence in Health Care
The healthcare system in Canada is under tremendous pressure to improve care quality and control costs. To achieve this engineering tools, traditionally from manufacturing, are being applied in hospital settings. Missing from these approaches is attention to the Human Factors – with caregiver burnout, injury, and early retirement as a result. We propose to develop new, Human Centered approaches to improving healthcare systems in ways that support caregivers and improve the quality of working life – because better work for caregivers means better quality care for patients.
