Sujeet Sennik is a doctoral student whose research focuses on the queering and decolonizing of a unique photographic archive of indentured laborers in Mauritius, his homeland. Sennik's work aims to uncover alternative narratives of identity and modernism by reinterpreting this colonial archive through the lenses of intersectional feminism, queer theory, and postcolonial critique. As a Mauritian-Canadian queer researcher with a background in the fashion industry, Sennik is committed to challenging traditional anthropological approaches and highlighting the cultural complexities of the descendants of indentured laborers. His research engages with the ongoing global discourse on labor, migration, and the democratic use of photography as a tool for both surveillance and representation.
