Rebecca Watson

My research seeks to document and analyze the historical trajectory of the sex doll, probing into the process of its creation, and contemporary deepfake sexual content generated by artificial intelligence. My project advocates for an ethics of care, and a profound shift in our understanding of control, consent, agency, and respect, particularly in relation to women, in our approaches to the creation and regulation of emerging technology. I approach this research with a background in Art History, where my research has focused on sexuality and the fetishization/objectification of women in art and literature in contrast with historical and legal records of their lived experiences.
