Noor Bhangu
Noor Bhangu's research explores the intersection of Islamic Art History, queer theory, and postcolonial studies. Her dissertation investigates how Western colonialism and its legacy of homocolonialism have shaped the representation of Islamic sexualities in visual culture. Noor aims to recover and recontextualize these marginalized histories by examining various forms of Islamic art, from illuminated manuscripts to contemporary performance art, challenging dominant Western narratives that have obscured diverse sexual identities and practices within the Islamic world. Her work contributes to the fields of Islamic Art History, queer studies, and decolonial theory by advocating for a more inclusive understanding of sexuality and cultural identity.
