DepartmentElectrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering
Areas of ExpertiseDistribution system analysis (including power system calculation, state estimation and optimization), energy storage systems, energy efficiency in commercial buildings, and demand response

Dr. Thiago Ramos Fernandes is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Urban Energy (CUE). He received a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Campinas (Brazil). During his PhD, he remained at Toronto Metropolitan University as a visiting PhD student for two years. His research interests involve transmission and distribution system analysis, energy storage systems, energy efficiency and demand response. Since joining the CUE as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2021, Dr. Fernandes has actively contributed to industrial and research projects for our industry partners, including Toronto Hydro and Toronto Community Housing. His current responsibilities include developing planning and operation strategies for large-scale grid-connected battery energy storage systems and developing innovative solutions to facilitate demand response at the transmission and distribution levels. Dr. Fernandes is a member of IEEE.
