Dr. Mélanie Mansat
I am a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Dr. Roberto Botelho since August 2022. I earned my PhD in Cell Biology (phosphoinositides and cell trafficking in muscle diseases model) in April 2022 from the Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France. My main research focus as a post-doctorate is to better understand the molecular mechanisms that facilitate phagosome maturation and resolution in macrophages. Understanding phagocytosis, and its late stages, is important in the understanding of how macrophages can undergo additional rounds of phagocytosis and dangerous particles elimination. I am also interested in iron overload processes in muscle cells, as I am working closely in collaboration with a post-doctorate fellow in Dr. Gary Sweeney’s lab at the York University. Understanding the mechanism underlying iron overload is important as it is involved in metabolic diseases and insulin-resistance.
