Dr. Alka Kumar, a Mitacs Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the CERC in Migration and Integration at TMU, has education and work experience in the humanities and in interdisciplinary social sciences – literary studies, migration, and peace studies. Her work spans across sectors, and it lives between research and practice, with focus on capacity building for racialized immigrant and refugee communities.
Her expertise areas include labour market integration for skilled professionals and immigrants in Canada; and in her current work, she explores innovative research approaches for creating alternative methods of knowledge production in migration.
As a consultant, and a volunteer, Alka works with immigrant-serving organizations, with focus on research, teaching, and strategy development, as well as leadership training and mentoring; she writes a monthly blog on Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI), as related to the `lived experience' of cultural communities in Canada.
