Converting your Google Sites webpages ahead of a platform upgrade
Google has announced an upgrade to its Google Sites service that will allow you to:
- optimize your site across mobile and desktop platforms; and
- collaborate with others to co-build your site in real-time.
What this means to you
If you wish to continue using your website, the introduction of the new Google Sites platform will require you to convert your existing classic Google Sites-based pages to the new platform by September 1, 2021.
How to convert your classic Google Sites website
To convert your classic Google Sites pages to the new Google Sites platform:
- Please submit a (google form) Classic Google Sites Conversion Request Form (external link) .
- Once submitted, a draft of your classic Google Sites pages will be created on your behalf on the new Google Sites platform.
- Once the draft is created, you will receive an email with a link to the new site.
- Review and update your draft site with new Google Sites components to ensure the page is working as you’ve intended.
- Publish your new site.
- Once created, your new Google Sites draft will not be available to visitors until you publish it.
Please note:
- For a preview of how classic Google Sites components will display once converted and the conversion issues you may need to check, please refer to the Google Site Components Post-Conversion document (external link) .
- To help with the transition, your classic Google Sites will remain active for visitors while you work on your site on the new Google Sites platform.
All websites that remain on the classic Google Sites platform on September 1, 2021 will be downloaded on your behalf as an HTML file and saved to your Google Drive for archival reference.
How to remove your classic Google Sites website
If you no longer wish to maintain your Google Sites pages, you may delete your site (external link) using instructions from the Google Sites Help page.
