New integrated Gmail experience
September 01, 2020
The integrated Gmail experience is bringing email, chat, and meetings—all your online communication streams—in one familiar place.
Within Gmail on the web or on mobile, you will now be able to access four distinct components:
- Mail, which has not changed and is the same Gmail experience users know and love.
- Chat, which allows users to message individuals and small groups directly.
- Rooms, which are spaces that include shared chat, files, and tasks to help groups more easily work on projects.
- Meet, which features upcoming meetings that you can view and join.
Minimizing new integrated Gmail components:
From the left side panel in Gmail on the web, click the triangle on Mail, Chat, Rooms, or Meet to minimize the section.
Turning off the new integrated Gmail experience:
- Go to Settings (gear icon in the top right)
- Select “See all settings” from the right side panel.
- Select “Chat and Meet” tab.
- To remove the Chat and Room section sections, select Chat off.
- To remove the Meet section, select Hide the Meet section in the main menu.
- Click “Save Changes”.
**Note: You can still access Google Chat and Google Meet, but they will not be part of your Gmail experience. They can be opened separately in a new tab or window on the web.
