This past week, the Google Groups service was refreshed with a more modern look-and-feel and usability improvements.

Try the features for yourself

You’ll find that the Groups interface controls have been updated to visually match controls in Gmail and other Google services. Additionally, you’ll find:

  • Improved navigation: All available Group settings are now consolidated into one section for easier access. Visit the G Suite Admin Help page (external link)  for help turning on this option.
  • Powerful search options: New filtering and search options are available to help you find content.
  • A simplified My Groups page: Organize your Groups and mark some as your favourites for quicker access.
  • Standardized messaging: Topics are now called “conversations” to match the patterns and interface in Gmail.
  • Enhanced member management: The updated Members page (external link)  now allows quicker access for you to change group member subscriptions and permissions.

Check in on your Groups privacy settings

If you’re trying out the new features, consider also checking in on your Groups privacy settings to make sure they’re private and only available to your Groups members or those at Ryerson. Find instructions on how you can secure your Groups.

Prefer the previous version of Google Groups?

Google allows the option to stick with the classic version of Google Groups. Visit the G Suite Admin Help page for help going back to classic Groups (external link) .
