Canadian dial-in numbers now available on Google Hangouts Meet
Ryerson has acquired G Suite Enterprise for Education licenses for full-time employees, which will now allow you to set up Hangouts Meet web conferences with a phone dial-in number based in Canada.
As of April 2, 2020, all new Google Calendar meetings set up with a Hangouts Meet option will include a Canadian dial-in number.
Setting up Canadian dial-in numbers for existing meetings
If your Google Calendar meeting was set up before April 2, 2020, it is likely to include a U.S.-based dial-in number. Here’s how you can switch to a Canadian dial-in number:
- Open the meeting in Google Calendar.
- Next to the Hangouts Meet option, click the X to remove the conference.
- Click Save to apply your change. This will close your meeting details.
- Open the meeting once more and next to the Add conferencing option, use the drop-down to select Hangouts Meet. This will add the option back to your meeting.
- Click Save to apply your new changes.
In some cases, an out-of-province area code will be added to your meeting. This is due to a bug in Google’s system and they are currently working on solutions to ensure phone numbers match the area codes in your location.
