Changes to Google Drive, Gmail, and Calendar to reduce inadvertent sharing

People often include links to Google Drive files in their emails without first sharing those files with the email’s recipients. When Gmail detects that you have linked to a file that you haven’t shared with one of the recipients, it used to ask if you want to share the file with anyone at Ryerson who has the link. If you said OK, the file was shared with anyone at Ryerson who has the link. Google Calendar worked in the same way.

On Nov. 30, 2016, Ryerson changed the default sharing so that only recipients of the email can view the Google Drive file. Similarly, the default sharing option in Google Calendar is that only guests of the event can view the document.
