Graduate Inspires Improvements for Pedestrians in Toronto
As co-founder of WalkTO, Sean Marshall, graduate of Geographic Analysis '04 and Spatial Analysis '05, is no stranger to advocacy for pedestrians. In January, inspired by a conversation on Twitter, he mapped over 250 "No Exit" signs across the City of Toronto (opens in new window) , where pedestrians and cyclists actually do have an exit. As a result, city council approved new signs that are not entirely focused on motorists, and this month, the first no-exit signs with the addition "Pedestrians Excepted" were installed.
By day, Sean works as a Geospatial Analyst for Public Health Ontario, after starting his career at St. Michael's Hospital and later the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. In his spare time, he loves exploring the city and region, blogs at https://seanmarshall.ca/ (external link, opens in new window) about the history of places, rail travel, and municipal politics, and writes for Spacing Magazine and TVO.org.
