Video documents Students, Staff & Faculty working to Improve Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
FCS has just released a new video documenting the work of many of the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion fund projects funded recently. “We wanted to show that these initiatives are important to us at the Faculty of Community Services and that we actively invite our whole community to participate,” said Nadya Burton, Associate Dean FCS. “We recognize how vital the commitment to equity and inclusion is within FCS, and want to offer opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to engage in projects and activities that will strengthen our capacities and practices of social justice.”
Projects including the Inclusive Chest and Breast Feeding Conference, an EDIC planning symposium focused on including Indigenous perspectives in planning, and Midwifery practises are a few of the projects in the video. “I hope that this is a conversation starter,” said Lynn Lavalee, Strategic Lead Indigenous Resurgence, FCS. “About the kinds of initiatives we can all take to reduce barriers, and build a more inclusive learning, teaching, and research space.”
The focus of the EDI fund for 2020 aims to improve and strengthen our equity and inclusion values and practices within the FCS community, specifically addressing anti-Black racism and supporting Black scholars, staff and student initiatives.
