Supporting Colleagues in the Return to Campus

February 02, 2022

To: RFA Faculty & Librarians; CUPE 3904 (Units 1, 2, 3)

Dear colleagues,

I am writing to follow up on President Lachemi’s recent message regarding a gradual return to campus that began on January 31 with a full return to in-person activities by February 28.

As we begin the transition back to in-person activities, I would like to provide you with some important information that I hope will help you navigate both the transition period and the full return to campus. On the Faculty Affairs website you will find answers to the most commonly posed questions that have been submitted to the administration. It is here that you will also find information pertinent to RFA and CUPE 3904 timelines. We will continue to provide updated information on this site as it becomes available.

As our community’s health and safety remains our priority, we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Ontario and in particular the spread of the Omicron variant. I would like to encourage colleagues to consider getting their third dose as soon as eligible.

Wellbeing

As communicated by President Lachemi, the university will close for a mental health day on Tuesday, February 22, extending the Family Day long weekend. The intention in implementing this is to encourage you to spend some time away from work and in support of your wellbeing.

While we know an additional day off will not in itself address the impact of COVID-19 on our wellbeing, we hope that you are able to spend the day doing something in support of your mental health. Perhaps that includes taking a digital detox and (re)connecting with loved ones.

Where can I get support?

There are many resources available to you at Ryerson:

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing at Ryerson
  • The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)
  • Ryerson’s Workplace Wellbeing Services team
  • Notice, Engage, Refer & Debrief Program

In addition, the following sites provide information and resources related to Mental Health:

Professional Development

The OVPFA continues to support your professional development during this transition period and as we return to campus, in collaboration with a variety of partners across the university. To register for our upcoming workshops/events, please visit the OVPFA website.

To continue to support your teaching, a number of pedagogical resources are also available to you during this period and throughout the term through the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT). The CELT offers a suite of workshops/events that provide essential strategies and tools that support both online and in-person teaching success.

Please visit Ryerson’s COVID-19 website where, in addition to information for Faculty and Contract Lecturers, you will find updated pages regarding campus status, health and safety, resources, and information for students should they have questions for you.

Be well, stay safe and follow us on Twitter @RyersonVPFA (external link) .
