Living with HIV/AIDS (#504)

This simulation was developed in collaboration with the IDPP – Internationally Educated Dietitians Pre-registration Program.

Douglas was diagnosed as HIV positive three months ago and has been coping with the symptoms. He needs help formulating a diet which will help alleviate some of his symptoms.

Note: Though the focus of simulations 504 and 505 is HIV - diet and meeting with a dietitian, Douglas Starr is a rich character and could also seek counseling from a social worker, a psychologist or a nurse.

Information for Learners

Douglas has made an appointment with a dietitian to discuss his weight loss, fatigue, nausea, and diarrhea. He has done some research on the importance of diet and HIV. The dietitian will know that Douglas is HIV positive.
