Advocacy, Transitions and Gender Identity (#808)

Developed in conjunction with Judy Finlay from the School of Child and Youth Care, Toronto Metropolitan University.

Jay (Jeremy) Lalonde has spent his life hiding his true self. The world knows him as Jessica. Now at 16 years old, he is beginning to navigate the transition to male and Jeremy. His parents kicked him out of his home when he was 13 years old and since then has been on his own coping with finding home, school, support and true friendship.

Information for Learners

Jay is 16 years old and needs help. So, last week he called your office and made an appointment to meet with a Youth Worker. On the phone, Jay relayed that he struggles with finding appropriate shelter, schools, support and health care. Today you, the Youth Worker, meet Jay for the first time in your office.
