Join the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network and the Black Faculty and Staff Community Network for a matinee screening of the groundbreaking and staggeringly influential film Paris is Burning (external link) .  

This event is designed to centre and celebrate TMU students, faculty and staff from the 2SLGBTQ+ and/or Black communities. However, all are welcome and encouraged to attend and show their support and solidarity.

What to expect

This iconic documentary about NYC's underground ballroom scene in the 1980s will take place within the fitting environment of the Chrysalis, who have generously partnered with the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network for Fall Pride.  

Dr. Art Blake will provide brief remarks about the film’s lasting impact.  

The film is generously provided by TMU Libraries.

Registration is encouraged. 

Content warning

The film includes problematic language, violence, poverty, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, racism and the effects of HIV/AIDS on the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

This event is being organized by the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network and the Black Faculty and Staff Community Network in honour of Fall Pride.  

Fall Pride, organized by the Positive Space Faculty and Staff Network, kicks off the academic year by celebrating the 2SLGBTQ+ community at TMU. Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in events that honour, celebrate and affirm the dignity, equality and visibility of 2SLGBTQ+ people.
