"What about the rest of me?": Understanding multiple identities in social justice and anti-oppression work

Each of us has multiple social identities that intersect and bring complexity to our lived experiences. An integrated anti-oppression framework for approaching questions of marginalization, inequality, privilege and dominance is based on the understanding that people have intricate or “mixed” identities. This means that different experiences and histories exist within the same group.
How does this understanding impact social justice work? How does such work deal with the many ways in which people experience marginalization or exercise dominance? This interactive session will explore these questions and assess how an integrated anti-oppression framework relates to equity, diversity and inclusion at Ryerson.
