Elizabeth Nunez will read from her forthcoming novel, followed by a conversation led by students in the MA in Literatures of Modernity program.
Elizabeth Nunez, PhD, immigrated to the US after completing high school in Trinidad. Winner of an American Book Award, A PEN Josephine Miles Award, and a Hurston Wright Legacy Award, she is the author of a memoir, Not for Everyday Use, and ten novels, including Prospero’s Daughter, Bruised Hibiscus, Anna In-Between, and Discretion. Four of her novels have been New York Times Editors’ Choice sections. She is the co-founder with John Oliver Killens of the National Black Writers Conference and executive producer of the NY Emmy-nominated CUNY-TV series Black Writers in America. Nunez is also Co-Editor of the anthology Stories from Blue Latitudes: Caribbean Women Writers at Home and Abroad, and of the collection of essays, Black Writers in the 90’s, and the author of several monographs of literary criticism. Nunez has served on the jury for national and international literary prizes/awards, including the international Dublin IMPAC Literary prize, the National Endowment for the Humanities Award, the Ernest Gaines Literary prize and the Fulbright Award for Creative Writing. Her latest novel Now Lila Knows will be published in spring 2022 (Akashic Books).
