SLC Live! Orientation 2018
Orientation got a new event this year, bringing together the Ryerson Students’ Union and all the faculties and departments. The university-wide event was hosted August 30th at the Student Learning Centre, each faculty taking a different floor of the building. The Faculty of Arts orientation took place on the fifth floor, the English department using visual and interactive displays to showcase their work best. The Centre for Digital Humanities (CDH) and the Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre (MLC) were also featured that night.
Current BA students were also featured. From Lauren Kirshner’s ENG 517 class (Techniques and Topics in Creative Writing), students Benson McDaniel, Doran Brooks, and Philip Johnston, also known as “The Boyfriends” performed at the spoken word portion of the night. Earlier this year, they placed second at Harbourfront’s Lit Jam, a spoken word-improv competition. They are launching a spoken word and improv series at the Imperial Pub next month.
The event was a huge success with a great turnout! The bar has been set high for years to come!
Big thanks to:
Cam Macdonald, Harleigh Keriazes, and Irene Gammel from the MLC
Marion Grant and Lorraine Janzen-Kooistra from the CDH
Lauren Kirshner for organizing the spoken-word event.
