Department of English Celebrates Programs and the Creative Spirit
With a few balmy wisps still in the autumn air, the English Department community gathered to celebrate its undergraduate and graduate programs and creative writing initiatives. Fusing Open Houses for our BA and MA programs with the launch of the 37th issue of our creative writing journal, the White Wall Review, a packed room of students, faculty, alumni, and friends enjoyed an evening of information, conviviality, and poetry.
Held in the Studio of the Arts and Letters Club, the evening began with program directors Anne-Marie Lee-Loy and Sophie Thomas introducing our innovative programs to potential students. BA Student Union President Daniel Gomez-Ortega then treated us to an inspiring portrayal of student life in the English Department, followed by drinks and appetizers.
The evening culminated with the launch of the latest issue of the White Wall Review. The journal boasts a totally new design and the start of the online publication of all 37 issues (dating back to the 1970s!), as well as plans to launch a new online complement to the hard copy version so many already admire. Readings by contributors Adam Katz and Damian Rogers ensured the night ended with humour, friendship, and our enjoyment of the written word.
