The iBEST Visiting Lecturer Series is pleased to present an in-person talk by Dr. John Sled, Professor and Vice Chair the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Sled's research spans multiple disciplines including medical imaging technology development, neuroscience, and obstetrics and he also holds the Canada Research Chair in Biomedical Imaging.

In his lecture “Wave Reflection Ultrasound for the Detection of Placental Disease”, Dr. Sled will discuss how blood flow pulsation through major arteries can be understood in terms of pressure waves, explore wave-reflection ultrasound which is a new methodology for non-invasive measurement of pressure waves and explore how wave reflections in the umbilical artery are sensitive to placental pathology, which is otherwise undetected by conventional diagnostic methods.
