Professor Ravi Ravindran was recently recognized with the 2024 International Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award (external link)  by ASM International, the world’s largest and most established materials information society.

The first Canadian to ever receive the prestigious award, Ravindran was nominated by former students and international academic scholars – a testament to his impact on the research community and TMU’s student community. In ASM International's award announcement, they recognized Ravindran “for his superb teaching attributes, outstanding research achievements in the processing of materials, and a lifetime commitment to excellence in professional service, all of which have provided inspiration for his students.”

Ravindran refers to his students as “extended family” and nurtures them at every stage of the academic journey. His attentiveness and commitment to student development are so inspirational, that many of his PhD students have been with him since they were undergraduates, and have become leaders in their fields. Recent 2024 Governor Gold Medal award recipient and PhD graduate, Bernoulli Andilab shared, “I am deeply thankful and grateful for the guidance and support of my professor and supervisor Dr. C. Ravi Ravindran. He inspired me during my graduate studies, which led to numerous publications, awards, and scholarships.”

The Chair of the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics, Donatus Oguamanam said, “Our department is very proud of Professor Ravi Ravindran. This award is a testament to his passion for inspiring and empowering our students, and his numerous contributions to the field of materials science and metallurgy.”

Congratulations Ravi!
