FuturEng 2023: Inspiring the next generation of women innovators, engineers and leaders.
In November 2023, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS) hosted the annual FuturEng event, in partnership with WEMADEIT (external link) . Led by the FEAS Teaching & Outreach team, FuturEng is designed to empower young women and girls to pursue STEM education and careers. Secondary school students from grades 9 through 12 participated in a weekend-long series of workshops and hands-on activities to develop their problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
The participants also had opportunities to meet with industry professionals, engineering mentors and students across the Greater Toronto Area. This year’s featured keynote speaker was Yilin (Linda) Zhao, a Protection and Control Engineer from Hydro One, a key industry partner for FuturEng. Students learned about what life is like for an engineering student, hearing from FEAS students Danielle Hill (4th-year mechanical engineering), Ariba Mirza (4th-year computer engineering), and Alessia Di Nallo (3rd-year biomedical engineering).

About FEAS Teaching and Outreach
The FEAS Teaching and Outreach team actively partners with schools, and other youth-oriented organizations, to inspire and educate the next generation of STEM students. We run in-classroom workshops, and on- and off-campus events, with our engineering students and alumni as mentors and educators. We also equip teachers with resources to promote STEM within their classrooms.
