Consultations

Your input will shape the future of EDI at TMU
This project will be stronger with active participation from students, faculty and staff.
In fall 2024, the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI), began developing the first university-wide equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) Strategy and Action Plan. Led by Vice-President, ECI, Tanya De Mello, an appointed advisory committee is guiding the project team through community consultation, research and leadership collaboration.
TMU’s EDI Strategy and Action Plan will be strengthened by a high level of engagement from students, faculty and staff, ensuring that our collective voices shape the future of EDI at TMU. Together, we will define a clear vision and priorities for the next five years, ensuring measurable progress through accountability and meaningful collaborations.
Engagement objectives
All TMU community members are invited to engage in the EDI Strategy and Action Plan process. Our engagement objectives are to:
- foster institutional buy-in and commitment
- gather and integrate stakeholder insights
- enhance transparency, trust and understanding
- assess institutional readiness and resource needs
- create pathways for meaningful engagement and dialogue
- strengthen relevance and positive impact
Community engagement opportunities
The EDI Strategy and Action Plan prioritises community engagement. The first round of community consultations took place in fall 2024 when community members were invited to complete a survey to share perspectives about how EDI can be advanced at TMU. Half of the survey participants identified fostering community and a sense of belonging as the top priority for advancing at TMU. This emphasizes that belonging is viewed as essential to progress.
The next phase of consultations will involve engagement initiatives with the broader community as well as focused sessions with different student, faculty, staff and community groups to generate ideas and feedback.
We value your contributions in the advancement of EDI at TMU, which will support the university’s vision and outline priorities to drive meaningful, lasting change.
Join a tabling session
Students, faculty and staff are invited to join one of our tabling sessions in the Student Learning Centre (341 Yonge. St) on March 26, April 2 and April 9, 2025, to discuss what “belonging” at TMU means to you and its significance in your personal, academic and professional lives.
