
Patrizia Albanese
I am a professor of Sociology and past president of the Canadian Sociological Association. I sit on the Toronto Metropolitan University Research Ethics Board. I have co-authored Growing Up in Armyville (with Deborah Harrison, in Press), Youth & Society (Oxford, 2011) and More Than It Seems: Household Work and Lifelong Learning (Women’s Press, 2010); and authored Child Poverty in Canada (Oxford, 2010), Children in Canada Today (Oxford, 2016), and Mothers of the Nation (U of T Press, 2006). I am co-editor of Sociology: A Canadian Perspective (with L. Tepperman, Oxford), Principles of Sociology (with L. Tepperman, Oxford) and Caring for Children: Social Movements and Public Policy in Canada (with R. Langford and S. Prentice, UBC Press, forthcoming). I have completed SSHRC-funded research on the impact of the rise of women’s non-standard, service sector employment on gender roles, identities and relations, and compared the complex task of creating and managing formal and informal non-parental childcare in non-urban communities in two policy jurisdictions (Ontario and Quebec) in the Ottawa Valley. I have also recently completed a SSHRC-funded mixed methods study (survey and interviews) of the psychological wellbeing, family functioning, attitudes toward school, and peer relationships of adolescents from Canadian Armed Forces families (D. Harrison, PI) and on advocacy and social movements in early childhood education and care (R. Langford, PI).
