Work with the Diversity Institute

Founded in 1999 by Dr. Wendy Cukier, an award-winning researcher and professor at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Ted Rogers School of Management, the Diversity Institute (DI) was established to advance equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) through a focus on employment, innovation and skills. Over the past 25 years, DI has partnered with hundreds of organizations—spanning public and private sectors, governments and non-profits—to advance EDI in workplaces, driving meaningful, sustainable change.
As the research lead for the Future Skills Centre (external link) and the head of the Women's Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (external link) , DI collaborates with a wide range of partners, including the Government of Canada. The Diversity Institute is also an ecosystem partner in the 50 – 30 Challenge (external link) . We offer multidisciplinary research and tailored consulting services to help organizations turn EDI into a competitive advantage. Our evidence-based, action-oriented approach provides organizations with practical strategies to embed EDI in their processes and practices.
The research is clear—implementing EDI practices and policies is not only the right thing to do, it delivers measurable benefits for organizations and individuals:
- Diverse organizations excel in global markets.
- Companies with more racial and ethnic diversity are 39% more likely to have higher financial returns.
- Diversity on boards and leadership teams increases employee satisfaction, which is linked to better engagement and performance.
Advancing gender equality in the economy could contribute an additional $150 billion of incremental GDP in Canada by 2026.
