People

CUE remains committed to developing and training the next generation of energy professionals, serving the ever-changing sector with a steady stream of talent.

CUE was always bustling with fascinating people working on interesting projects and cutting-edge ideas. Some of my fondest memories are of the inspiring people I met spontaneously in the halls.

Education and Training

Program Program Description
Professional Master’s Diploma in Energy and Innovation
Launched in 2016, this part-time program equips participants with the skills required to function competently as operators, officers, administrators, managers, technicians, analysts, policy advisors and other key occupations in the Canadian energy sector.
Electrical Engineering 101
This seminar series introduces the fundamental concepts of electrical engineering to those without an engineering background looking to contribute effectively in non-technical roles in the fast-growing and rapidly changing sector.
Postgraduate Certificate in Energy Management and Conservation
Launched in 2012, in cooperation with The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), this online certificate program enables adult learners to learn about energy management, conservation, entrepreneurship and public policy.
Customized Executive Education Programs CUE delivers seminars and workshops developed to meet the particular needs of Canadian organizations and international groups. Networking events and lab tours can be added to give groups an exclusive opportunity to connect with researchers, energy leaders and policymakers. We’ve worked on custom courses with the Government of Ontario, the Government of Bangladesh, Tata Power and the IESO.

I’ve always been curious about energy storage, smart grids, renewable energy, and certainly how those interact with the electricity markets. Those are all things that I’ve always been curious about, but professionally that’s not the focus of my work. This program was an opportunity to expose myself to that and see, especially in this industry that's changing rapidly, where things are going.

Student Awards

Made possible by our generous sponsors, these awards recognize students who identify real-world industry problems, research and design solutions, and demonstrate results. Since 2010, there have been 298 assistantship/bursary recipients with almost $1.2 million distributed on behalf of our industry sponsors, Connect Canada, Enwave, Hydro One, the IESO, and Toronto Hydro.

My time at CUE was very enlightening - it gave me a great understanding of the energy sector in Ontario and in Canada. I explored urban energy challenges which helped me really understand the transmission and the distribution of the energy grid – and the social and environmental context on top of it. It helped me gain those perspectives.

Entrepreneurs inside the Clean Energy Zone

Clean Energy Zone

The Clean Energy Zone at CUE is yet another way we've helped to empower energy entrepreneurs. One of 10 zones at the university, the Clean Energy Zone is an incubator focused on clean, sustainable energy innovations that apply to electric vehicles, renewable energy, energy storage and distribution, microgrids, net-zero city building, and other energy transition technologies. The model enables students to apply their degree coursework to real-world startups, causes, companies, projects, or ventures. Since its inception, over $10 million in funding has been raised by Clean Energy Zone startups, and more than 140 jobs have been created within 44 companies.
