New roles available for accessibility support persons in your shell

January 17, 2025

If any of your students or teaching team require accessibility support persons, such as ASL interpreters, captioners or others to have access to your course shell materials for the purposes of support, we now have a couple of new roles available for that purpose:

  • Accessibility Support Person:
This person can access all content (including inactive shells and some content that is hidden, future, past or Conditionally-released), Announcements, view Assignments & Quiz instructions. They cannot view any private student information, such as names or student numbers. Most of the time, this role will meet your needs.
  • Accessibility Support Person - Advanced:
This person can access all content (including inactive shells, and some content that is hidden, future, past and Conditionally-released), Announcements, view Assignments & Quiz instructions, PLUS access Discussions and Groups. They can view limited private student information, such as first name and last name, so please use caution when selecting this role.

You can add these users to your course shell in the same way that you add your TA or co-instructors.

Please note that we are piloting these roles at this time, so they may be subject to change. If you use these roles in your course shells and would like to provide feedback, please contact our team at courses@torontomu.ca.
