The Irving N. Arnold Award for Innovation and Invention

The Irving N. Arnold Award for Innovation and Invention annually provides one student with $1,000 to assist in pursing their startup. To be eligible for this award, applicants must be full-time or part-time students at Toronto Metropolitan University and current members of one of Toronto Metropolitan's Zones, either as a founder or co-founder of a business or project. Applicants should demonstrate a passion to build their startup and a willingness to share and collaborate with others in their Zone. This award will recognize and support a student with an innovative and/or inventive startup who successfully outlines the practical application of their project moving forward.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS

To be eligible for this award, students must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time or part-time undergraduate, graduate or Chang School student at Toronto Metropolitan University (CEDZ100 qualifies as part-time)
  • Be a Founder of Co-Founder of a project in a Zone
  • Be in good academic standing

 Applicants must submit a written statment (500 words maximum) outlining:

  • Their innovative/inventive business or project
  • How they have demonstrated commitment/passion for their business/project
  • How they intend to pursue their business/project both externally and/or as part of their university education
  • How they collaborate/support other members of their Zone

SELECTION AND ADMINISTRATION

A selection committee comprised of three representatives from Zone Learning will review applications and prepare a ranked list of qualified Award recipients. They will make the final selection of the recipient based on the weighted criteria.

If in the opinion of the selection committee no applicants meet the outlined criteria, the award shall not be given to any applicant that year.
