International Water Decade Alliance
Urban Water TMU is a proud partner of the International Water Decade Alliance
Urban Water TMU is proud to be a partner of the International Water Decade Alliance (IWDA). IWDA includes 20+ academic institutions, non-government organizations, associations, and private sector interests seeking 10-year funding from the federal government to develop solutions needed globally to achieve the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that relate to water. These SDGs are highlighted in the graphic below. The lead on IWDA is Dr. Zafar Adeel from Simon Fraser University's Pacific Water Research Centre.
In December 2016, the UN adopted the resolution of the "International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028" with the goal of increased attention to the scarcity and challenges around water as a human right to put a greater focus on water during these ten years. The IWDA Alliance will undertake research and engagement related to the decade to the needs of countries around the world to achieve the 2030 SDGs. With the 2030 SDGs, the UN aims to ease the effects of extreme poverty, improve health for people, and help reverse climate change.
Urban Water TMU has the expertise to contribute to the IWDA in a number of areas including the dialogue on water policy given the inter-jurisdictional nature of water and research into smart and optimized urban water management approaches in view of climate change.
