1-on-1 writing specialist appointment
Students can access 30-minute one-on-one writing appointments to get support on any of the following topics: understanding an assignment, building academic vocabulary, generating ideas, structuring a paper, understanding business writing genres, revising for sentence-level issues, applying instructor feedback, citation styles and referencing.
Writing support drop-in | weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays
The Writing Specialist is also available for two Drop-in periods during the week, both an hour long.
On Tuesdays from 1:00pm until 2:00pm, you can find the Writing Specialist at the TRS 7th floor Alcove-- between the elevators and the seating area.
On Thursdays from 1:00pm until 2:00, the Writing Specialist is available to meet with students virtually on Zoom.
You do not need to book a specific time to visit, but you do have to Register for these Drop-in periods on Blackthorn. Find the links to those Blackthorn events below.
Writing workshops
Join the Writing and Language Specialist in these 90-minute virtual or in-person workshops and hone your academic and professional writing and research skills. Six different workshops will be offered this semester, and students who attend multiple workshops and complete practical writing tasks can earn Open Badges through Canvas Badges.
Register for these events with the Blackthorn links below and (google doc) check out this document (external link, opens in new window) to learn more about workshop descriptions, outcomes, dates and open badges.
Our No-Show Policy
What is the Event No-Show Policy?
The Event No-Show Policy requires that you cancel any event registration at least 24 hours in advance in the rare case that you may no longer be able to attend. Missing three events without advance cancellation will result in a violation of the Event No-Show Policy with action required. If you continue to no-show for events, any of your new/upcoming event registrations will be automatically cancelled.
Why is this important for me?
With over 12,000+ Ted Rogers School students providing an enhanced student experience also means prioritizing event accessibility. To uphold accountability, when you sign up for an event ensure that you are 100% committed to attending. Otherwise, you are taking away a spot from another student. By cancelling at least 24 hours in advance, you are helping free up a spot for another student to participate.

Guidelines for Student Consultations
How many appointments can I attend each week?
TRSM undergraduate students can attend one 30-minute appointment per week to make it more accessible to other students. However, students can join Drop-In sessions whether or not they have already booked an individual appointment that week.
Can you edit my assignment or thesis?
Although we are not an editing service, we will help you to become better editors of your own work.
Can you help me with a take-home test or exam?
We cannot assist you with written take-home tests as this would constitute a breach of Policy 60: Academic Integrity. For more information, please visit the Academic Integrity website. Please review the procedures for TMU Senate Policy 60: Academic Integrity.
