In-person for the first time in two years, the Ted Rogers School of Management hosted its annual Student Awards Celebration. Award recipients from the School of Accounting & Finance and the School of Business Management attended the Awards Celebration on Wednesday, March 1, while recipients from the School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, School of Information Technology Management and School of Retail Management celebrated on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

The Student Awards Celebration offered an opportunity to celebrate outstanding academic achievements and community impact, and recognize the generosity of Ted Rogers School donors. During the 2022-2023 academic year, over $2.4 million in financial support contributed to student success.

Scholarships have helped pave the way for fourth-year students like Adara Harry (Business Technology Management), Jermaine Garret (Economics and Management Science), Jacqueline Chung (Business Technology Management) and third-year student Yasmine Dabir (Business Management) to achieve their goals in the classroom and out in the industry.

This year, Chung’s CIBC Women in Business Technology Management Award (BTM) was renewed, and she was recognized with four new awards, including the BTM Alumni Scholarship, Marc Castillo 2SLGBTQ+ Student Award, Leadership Award for Overall Excellence and the Sharon Gooden Memorial Award. She’s looking forward to leveraging her success to strengthen the on-campus community for her peers.

“I hope to organize more diverse events on campus by eliminating isolation, offering mentorship, and conducting simple “interventions” for minority groups,” Chung explains, noting the unique challenges often faced by racialized students in their business school education and early careers.

Garret was connected to scholarships to support his journey at the Ted Rogers School. For Garret, presented with the George Wong Scholarship in Business Management and the Joey and Toby Tanenbaum Business Scholarships, the awards were crucial to funding his education.

“Words cannot express how much this scholarship relieves me financially. This recognition truly inspires me, and it reaffirmed my motivation and dedication to my studies.”

Jermaine Garret

Recognizing the strength of the Ted Rogers School's active and engaged network of alumni and donors, Garret and Harry hope to pay it forward to future students struggling with the cost of post-secondary education.

“I have been able to learn, lead, give back and succeed,” adds Harry, describing the impact of the Ted Rogers School of Management Renewable Undergraduate Entrance Award. “This means the world to me and I am extremely grateful.”

The generosity of donors will never be lost on Dabir, recipient of The Condo Store Community Builder Award. “I deeply appreciate charity work through my experience running a charity for the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic at SickKids Hospital,” she adds, “I appreciate all the time and energy that The Condo Store has put into helping students like myself at the Ted Rogers School of Management”.
