The Ted Rogers School of Management is a double honoree in this year’s Corporate Knights Better World Ranking – with both the Bachelor of Commerce and MBA programs receiving high honours.
The survey has named the Ted Rogers School’s Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) program first overall in Canada (external link, opens in new window) and the Ted Rogers MBA program third in Canada and eighth globally (external link, opens in new window) for integrating sustainability knowledge and skills into business education.
"We are so proud to be first in the inaugural undergrad rankings, and the MBA jump to prominence is not a surprise. These achievements are testaments to the efforts of our incredible faculty, staff and students,” says Ted Rogers School Dean Daphne Taras.
"Our school clearly embodies the values of sustainability and performance. We now have a large group of ethicists on faculty too. This Corporate Knights showing will both affirm our approach and energize our school. Interest in sustainability crosses disciplinary lines and is common to all generations."
The Better World MBA Ranking (external link, opens in new window) , now in its 18th year, identifies the top full-time MBA programs in the world for instilling a holistic purpose of business in future leaders, ensuring they are equipped with the skills, tools and values to build a more inclusive and prosperous society in sync with our natural world. A total of 150 MBA programs around the world were evaluated to determine the ranking.
Ted Rogers MBA’s placement in the 2020 Better World MBA Ranking is a significant jump from last year when the program placed 37th in the world and 10th in Canada. Some of the reasons for the program’s rise in ranking is an increase in research appearing in eligible journals, faculty diversity (both racial and gender) and the content of core courses.
“It is gratifying that this recognition comes as our MBA program has renewed itself with a commitment to instil socially responsible decision-making and stewardship of the environment. Ethical corporate governance and accountability are core values,” says Dr. Donna Smith, Graduate Program Director, MBA Program.
The Better World MBA Ranking evaluated programs across five key performance indicators: the number of sustainability-focused articles in peer-reviewed journals and citations (30% and 20% respectively), the number of core courses that incorporate sustainable development topics (30%), research institutes and centres devoted to sustainable development issues (10%) and faculty gender and racial diversity in the business school (5% each).
This year, an undergraduate category was added to the Better World ranking for Canada for the first time.
“The next generation of business leaders will need to be agile and adaptable, and we believe our school provides that foundation and prepares students for whatever challenges the future may hold,” says Dr. Al Goss, Associate Dean, Students.
These honours are just two of many already awarded to the Ted Rogers School this year. The business school has also been recognized in other prestigious rankings such as the 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject, ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects and Maclean’s 2020 list of Canada’s Best Business Programs.
