Towards a predictive model of blockchain-based medical records adoption: How do technology readiness and initial trust affect behavioral intentions?
Summary
There is an explosive interest in using blockchain technology and in unfolding its potentials in various sectors. However, scholarly research on individuals’ adoption of blockchain-based systems is in its infancy. This paper presents the initial step of work-in-progress research on the adoption of blockchain-based medical records by individuals. It is an emerging blockchain use case that particularly favors patient-centered care and interoperability in the healthcare sector. We propose an initial framework that integrates the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), initial trust model (ITM), and technology readiness index (TRI) perspectives to understand how readiness practices and formation of trust at the pre-adoption stage may contribute to patients’ behavioural intention towards adopting blockchain-based medical records.
