Frequently Asked Questions
All TMU students can apply for SLLS jobs. However, the majority of positions have been created for domestic undergraduate students, and require Career Boost Program approval. Read the job descriptions carefully as some positions have been created solely for graduate students and / or international students. More information can be found on the Career, Co-op, and Student Success webpage.
Most positions require on campus in-person interaction, however, some remote work may be possible. This is a good question to ask in the job interview.
For Summer 2024, there are 2 contract periods (see individual job postings):
- Period 1: May 6th to August 9th, 2024
- Period 2: May 20th to August 23rd, 2024
For Fall 2024: September 9th - December 13th 2024
For Winter 2025: January 6th - April 4th 2025
Summer 2024: 35 hours per week for 14 weeks
Fall 2024: Approx. 10 hours/week for 14 weeks
Winter 2025: Approx. 10 hours/week for 13 weeks
All domestic undergraduate students must obtain Career Boost approval. For student eligibility requirements and the approval application please visit the Student Financial Assistance website. Students residing outside of Ontario are not eligible for Career Boost. If you are on a work term or an exchange, you will not be eligible for Career Boost for that term.
To obtain Career Boost approval, the minimum GPA is 2.0, however some SLLS positions may require a higher GPA.
You need to be enrolled in a full-time course load for both the fall term and winter term, i.e. at least 3 courses per semester.
The Career Boost International program provides employment to full-time Undergraduate and Graduate International students who hold valid study permits and whose educational costs are not covered by Canadian government student assistance programs.
Unlike Career Boost for Domestic students and Graduate students, there is no formal application process to gain official "approval status" for Career Boost International. International students will need to meet all the criteria in (google doc) this checklist document (external link) . Only certain SLLS positions have been created for international student applicants.
Log in to recruitstudents.torontomu.ca to view Career Boost International job postings. Postings will be added on a rolling basis in late February.
The Career Boost Graduate & Law program provides jobs for eligible full-time domestic Graduate and Law students. Read the job description for each position carefully to see if graduate students are eligible.
Apply through the SLLS job portal (external link, opens in new window) . The cover letter, resume, (and portfolio if needed) need to be uploaded as one PDF document. New for 2024, candidates can only apply to jobs within a single unit of SLLS, i.e. International Student Support, Learning Support, Student Life & Campus Engagement, TMU Leadership, Tri-Mentoring Program.
The Career, Co-op & Student Success Centre provides workshops and events, e.g. How to Write a Resume Employers Will Love. They also offer 1-on-1 appointments, e.g. Resume / Cover Letter Advising.

In a hiring carousel candidates are assigned to a small group of 6-10 people. Each group will engage in a group discussion and a problem-solving activity. During the group activities, participants are observed and graded on their engagement with their fellow group members. The final component consists of each participant being called to a brief individual interview.
