General Surgery

A Muslim female doctor consults with a patient

TMU’s General Surgery Program will graduate competent, knowledgeable and technically adept surgical consultants prepared to serve in both community and academic centres. Residents will receive early and diverse exposure to all clinical areas of general surgery, from fundamentals and principles of surgery to advanced surgical practice and operative skills. The program will also equip residents with a solid foundation for continuing medical education for their entire surgical careers and for any desired subspecialty surgery training.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Residency Accreditation Committee requested additional information prior to making an accreditation decision for this program. This is an expected part of the process for new programs. The program is confident that accreditation will be granted at the next meeting of this committee on October 17th and 18th, 2024. If the program does not receive accreditation, no positions will be available in the match.
