General Internal Medicine

A male doctor consults with a patient in a hospital ward

TMU’s General Internal Medicine (GIM) residency program is a two-year subspecialty program for residents who have completed three years of internal medicine training. Residents in this program will refine their skills in providing high-quality care, learn to tailor care to diverse communities, and develop subspecialty-level expertise.

The GIM program will equip residents with the clinical skills and experience to manage complex cases in both acute care and hospital settings, as well as in ambulatory and outpatient settings. Working in large, busy community hospitals, residents will have direct access to experienced, dedicated clinical faculty who are passionate about training the next generation of physicians. They will learn to deliver holistic, inclusive care to patients from a wide variety of cultures, and to leverage the latest technology in their care delivery. Residents will also pursue specialized training in an area of GIM.

The GIM program is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Our unique LEARN program also offers individualized time, space and resources for residents to focus on areas of specialized interest.
