Family Medicine-Enhanced Skills: Addiction Medicine

A Black female doctor stands in a hospital room

TMU’s one-year Family Medicine-Enhanced Skills (FM-ES): Addiction Medicine residency enables family physicians to provide high-quality, evidence-based care for patients living with substance use disorders. Working in both inpatient and outpatient settings, residents will gain experience caring for patients with concurrent disorders and incorporating psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy and mindfulness into their practice.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada Residency Accreditation Committee requested additional information prior to making an accreditation decision for this program. This is an expected part of the process for new programs. The program is confident that accreditation will be granted at the next meeting of this committee on October 17th and 18th, 2024. If the program does not receive accreditation, these residency positions will be removed from the CaRMS match and candidates’ application fees will be refunded.
