Toronto Metropolitan University has successfully nominated Professor Anna Triandafyllidou to be the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration. Read more on the CERC in Migration and Integration website.

Toronto Metropolitan University has been selected to nominate a prestigious Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration with $10 million in funding to bring a world-renowned researcher to Canada to lead an internationally recognized research program. 

The global movement of people – whether permanent or temporary, within a country or cross-border, forced or voluntary – is increasingly shaping the political, economic and social processes of the 21st century. Toronto Metropolitan University is well-positioned to support the program of a talented researcher who will make important contributions to this ongoing conversation and create solutions that will positively impact the lives of migrants in Canada and abroad.

About Toronto Metropolitan University's CERC in Migration and Integration

The CERC in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University will form a multi-faceted and internationally recognized research program to transform knowledge creation fundamentally, foster global collaborations and impact policy and practice. The CERC will develop outcomes aligned with key elements of the priorities of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

The program will:

  • Examine the structural, historical and contemporary factors influencing migration decisions and trends.
  • Compare the relative strengths and advantages of different immigration and refugee policies and practices around the globe.
  • Generate research outcomes that address the challenges of contemporary migration and integration.
  • Inform the development of more relevant programs and practices in areas such as: skills shortages in labour markets, social cohesion through an integrated society and Canada's global competitiveness in an evolving knowledge economy.
  • Lead engaged research with immigrant and refugee communities, government and policy actors, immigrant serving agencies, settlement organizations, cultural centres and citizen groups.
