TMU researcher's work on child rights supported by Ontario Research Fund
A Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) researcher has received a prestigious grant through the Ontario Research Fund – Research Excellence program for her work centred on children’s rights globally and in Canada.
School of Child and Youth Care professor Tara Collins has received more than $1.5 million from the Government of Ontario. With this funding, she will lead scholars and community partners in expanding her International and Canadian Child Rights Partnership (ICCRP) project in Ontario. This expansion will leverage the knowledge and collaborations gained since the ICCRP’s inception, focusing on how intergenerational relationships contribute to, challenge and transcend barriers to children’s rights.
“The implementation of children’s rights in research, policy and practice not only requires the meaningful engagement of children and youth in processes and decision-making. Intergenerational relationships must be better understood and supported to effect social innovations in services, policies and governance,” said professor Collins.
“I’m thrilled to congratulate professor Collins on this funding achievement. Her ongoing work with the International and Canadian Child Rights Partnership showcases her research excellence and the importance of collaboration across academia, policy, advocacy groups and even generations to ensure children’s rights are protected and their voices heard,” said Steven N. Liss, TMU’s vice-president, research and innovation.
