Ryerson professors Sepali Guruge and Lori Schindel Martin receive Ontario COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund grant
Two Ryerson University researchers and their team have been awarded an Ontario COVID-19 Rapid Research Fund grant from the provincial government for a study that aims to improve the care of older persons during the pandemic while protecting the mental health and well-being of health-care workers.
Professors Sepali Guruge and Lori Schindel Martin of the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing and their team will use the $90,160 grant to investigate how relational care of older persons has changed during the pandemic, how those shifts have affected the mental health and well-being of their health-care providers and identify what creative strategies the providers have developed in response. The findings will be used to help improve care for older persons during the pandemic and protect the well-being of health-care providers.
“Congratulations to professors Guruge and Schindel Martin and team for securing this funding. The COVID-19 Rapid Research Fund will support this project and others in developing strategies that can be implemented to address the challenges presented currently by COVID-19 and help prepare for future pandemics,” said Steven N. Liss, vice-president, research and innovation at Ryerson.
The Ontario COVID-19 Rapid Research Fund is part of the provincial government’s investment in advancing medical and health research and developing tools and resources to combat this and other infectious diseases.
